Gladys J Wallace and Ulysees S Wallace Scholarships
Legacy Avenue Foundation is a nonprofit that was founded on the importance of making higher education more accessible for under-represented communities by providing scholarships and resources to students looking to advance their education. We award two, $5,000 scholarships to college students from underrepresented backgrounds annually in memory of Gladys and Ulysees Wallace.
Gladys J. Wallace was a lifelong educator for over 42 years in the Willis Public Schools System and later served as Supervisor of Special Education in Navasota ISD in Texas. Mrs. Wallace earned a bachelor and two master’s degrees from Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU). Her efforts extended well beyond the classroom, where she served as Graduate Advisor and City Council Woman to advocate for PVAMU students.
Ulysees S Wallace was one of the first African Americans to work in Wildlife & Fisheries in Brazoria County, Texas. Mr. Wallace earned both a bachelor and master's degrees in Agriculture from Prairie View A&M University. During his career that spanned 38 years, he was employed as a Biological Technician in Wildlife & Fisheries for the US Department of Interior and was a Charter Member of the National Animal Damage Control Association.
